Founded in 1998 by four PhD candidates with a vision, Spatial Informatics Group (SIG) has grown into an internationally recognized organization dedicated to innovative solutions in geospatial analysis, environmental sciences, and socioeconomic sciences. Over the years, we have expanded our expertise and services, providing groundbreaking research, developing cutting-edge technologies, and fostering collaborations that drive positive change globally. Our goal is–and always has been–to contribute to the development of a global green economy, ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.
Spatial Informatics Group has three software technology teams that work across our science domains at SIG: the ESRI-stack team, the Google Earth Engine (GEE) stack team, and the Environmental Software team. Each of these teams support specific web applications, and the product roadmaps are created with our clients.
Our software teams collaborate frequently to share best practices. For example, our Environmental Software team works with members of the GEE team to share the expertise in different software stacks and streamline use of different frameworks. This structure allows us to have more efficient teams and leverage our scientific expertise across program.
We are more than just a think-tank; we are a boundary organization that actively collaborates with universities and other research institutions. Our network includes partnerships with leading universities such as the University of San Francisco, University of Colorado Denver, and University of California Berkeley. This network enhances our research capabilities and allows us to push the boundaries of scientific innovation.
We believe that diversity strengthens our organization and embrace inclusiveness in all our endeavors.
We support our team’s ongoing personal and professional development, ensuring that we stay at the forefront of scientific and technological advancements.
