Thomas Devera is a Software Engineer and Big Data Analyst with Spatial Informatics Group. He focuses on developing architectural frameworks that integrate distributed computing and computational algorithms with geospatial technologies and analysis, statistical modeling, predictive analytics, and scientific methodologies. He has helped develop a distributed compute algorithm to run a wildfire modeling simulation at a massive scale.
After starting his career as mechanical engineer in the aerospace, architecture, and engineering sectors, Thomas transitioned into software engineering, developing systems-level applications that integrate business-to-business processes that tie together frontend, backend, and data tier levels. More recently he has capitalized on his expertise in production-oriented software design and deployment to bridge the traditional software engineering practice with the data science practice of statistical modeling and analysis, distributed compute, and geospatial analysis.
Thomas holds a bachelor’s in Biological Systems Engineering (with minors in Forestry and German) from UC Davis.
