Andrea McMahon, PhD, is a Research Scientist on the Environmental Mapping and Natural Hazards teams at Spatial Informatics Group. With a background in geography and landscape ecology, she specializes in using optical satellite imagery to map land cover change.
Andrea is passionate about conducting applied research to tackle real-world environmental challenges and to mitigate their impacts on society. In past projects Andrea used satellite data to monitor deforestation and forest degradation in Myanmar, and to assess environmental risk factors for mosquito-borne diseases.
Andrea holds a PhD in Geography and Environmental Sustainability from the University of Oklahoma and a master’s in Global Change Ecology from the University of Bayreuth (Germany).
