Karen Dyson, PhD, is a Research Scientist and Geospatial Analyst, on the Environmental Mapping Team at Spatial Informatics Group. She specializes in ecology, conservation, and statistics, with a focus on applied research.
Broadly speaking, Karen’s work supports habitat with words, numbers, and maps based on the best available science. Past projects include developing environmental DNA based monitoring for impact investing, applied research examining how development and vegetation planting impact urban vegetation and wildlife, and mapping human impacts on protected areas.
Karen holds an Interdisciplinary PhD in Urban Design and Planning from the University of Washington with a specialization in urban ecology and conservation; a master’s in Marine and Environmental Affairs from the University of Washington; and a bachelor’s in Natural Resource Management and Resource Economics from Cornell University.
