Daniel is an economist specialized in policy impact assessment and monitoring. His areas of expertise are rural economic development, illegal crops substitution, deforestation, agricultural value chains and institutional strengthening. Daniel coordinated a multidisciplinary monitoring team that evaluated Colombia’s illegal crop substitution program for USAID for more than 2 years. During the past 3 years he has collaborated as a researcher and GIS evaluation expert for the Rome-based International Fund of Agricultural Development in evaluations in Colombia, Central America Argentina and the Dominican Republic. He specializes in the production of subnational-level socioeconomic indicators using GIS information layers. Daniel has also ample experience utilizing mixed methods techniques to characterize socio economic phenomena like contraband, illegal crops, illegal gambling and deforestation. He worked for a year as an insights analyst for a London-based fintech firm, where he was in charge of data analysis and consumer behavior modeling with ML techniques. Daniel holds a B.A. in Economics from Los Andes University and an MSc. in Global History from the London School of Economics, and has co-authored research papers for international journals.
