Courtney Giebink

Research Scientist

Courtney Giebink is a Research Scientist in the Forest and Agriculture Management domain, with a background in forest biometrics, including growth and yield modeling with the Forest Vegetation Simulator (FVS), carbon quantification, forest inventory data fusion, and calibration of forest models with disturbance and climate sensitivity. Before joining SIG, Courtney worked with the USDA Forest Service, coordinating advancements to biometrical approaches and aligning priorities across private, public, and academic sectors, as well as contributing estimates of emissions and removals for the forest sector to the National Greenhouse Gas Inventory.

At SIG, she applies her expertise in forest ecology, statistical analysis, carbon accounting, simulating modeling, and geospatial analysis to support forest carbon, management, and climate-related projects. She has contributed to assessments of treatment effectiveness, including the quantification of outcome-based change metrics, as well as the integration of climate in projections of forest dynamics. She has wrangled large datasets, working with several coding languages. She has also contributed to technical reports, creating visualizations and translating results into actionable insights.

She holds a master’s degree in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from the University of Arizona and a bachelor’s degree in Biology with a minor in Statistics from the University of Wisconsin – La Crosse.
