SERVIR - Amazonia, Science and Data Lead

Brian Zutta, PhD, is Director of the Science and Data Team for Spatial Informatics Group. He is a multidisciplinary scientist with expertise in GIS, remote sensing, modeling, biodiversity, ecology, plant ecophysiology, and climate change.

With more than 20 years of professional experience, Brian has authored multiple peer-reviewed publications and served as an international consultant on environmental monitoring and measurement. His most recent work focuses on predictive geospatial modeling, deforestation and forest degradation monitoring, and bridging the gap between science and policy in Latin America.

Brian served for several years as the coordinator of the REDD+ measurement, reporting, and verification (MRV) and national forest monitoring system of the Ministry of the Environment of Peru.He has also served as an external expert for mitigation, data, and analysis under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Brian holds a PhD from UCLA and served as a postdoctoral fellow at NASA–JPL. He lives in Lima, Peru.
