Jose Leandro Fernandes is an international consultant for Spatial Informatics Group, with a multidisciplinary background and expertise in governance and learning processes in creating, diffusing, and using decision support tools for land use, ecosystem services, climate change, education, and ESG practices for the private sector sustainability.
With 20 years of professional experience, Jose is an experienced international development professional who has worked on major international programs, funded by USAID, IDB, and UN, coordinating projects, and providing services in the areas of economic development, urban sustainability, and environmental management. His most recent work focuses on user engagement for SERVIR-Amazonia, facilitating science and policy integration in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Jose served as the coordinator of the Strengthening of the Citizen Monitoring Network of Três Lagoas-MS Sustainability Plan, Brazil (IDB), and the National Plan for Integrated Water Resources Management of Uruguay for the Ministry of the Environment of Uruguay (MVOTMA). He has also served as project lead of UN-Habitat´s “Potentiate Local Economy of the Agglomeration Areas in Bogota and the Knowledge Management of the Urban and Regional Economy”.
Jose is a Science and Tech Policy researcher and practitioner of an environmental transformative innovation agenda through the ST&I network for REDD+.
Jose Fernandes is a PhD Candidate in Technological and Science Policy from Unicamp, Brazil, specializing in learning and institutional governance for environmental planning tool usage and decision-making. He holds two Master’s degrees: one in urban economic development from UCL, UK, and another in urban and regional planning from USP, Brazil, and a Bachelor’s degree in public administration. He lives in Sao Paulo, Brazil.
