Luis Lizcano-Sandoval is a marine biologist and biological oceanographer with experience in fields such as marine & coastal ecology, climate change, and remote sensing. Luis received his Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Valle (Colombia), then received a Master’s degree in Marine Science and Limnology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Currently he is a PhD candidate in Marine Science (Biological Oceanography) at the University of South Florida. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for his doctoral studies in the United States. His current research involves the use of multispectral satellite imagery to map distribution and detect changes in blue carbon ecosystems such as seagrass meadows and coastal wetlands at large temporal scales in the Mexican Caribbean, Cuba, Gulf of Mexico, and the Florida peninsula; and the evaluation of past and future climate change impacts on those coastal habitats. Luis is joining the Environmental Mapping Team at SIG to support capacity-building projects in the Caribbean and South-America, and Google Earth Engine trainings. Luis enjoys scuba diving, sports, nature, and drinking colombian coffee. He speaks Spanish and English.
