Austin Troy, PhD, is a Principal and Co-founder of Spatial Informatics Group, Co-director of SIG’s Ecosystem Services Team, and Professor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Colorado–Denver. A core focus of Austin’s work at SIG has been on ecosystem services mapping, valuation and assessment and he has worked on over fifteen projects in this realm. His SIG work has also looked at fire-safe community planning and urban sustainability, among other topics. His academic research also includes work on urban green infrastructure and climate-adapted cities. He is author of the book The Very Hungry City (Yale University Press, 2012) and has authored more than 60 journal articles and book chapters. He has received funding from the National Science Foundation, NASA, US Forest Service and numerous other agencies. He is a former Planning Commissioner for the city of Burlington, VT. Austin holds a doctorate in Environmental Science, Policy, and Management from UC Berkeley and a Master’s in Forestry from the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies.
