A community-focused action framework

Assembly Bill 617 (AB617) provides a community-focused action framework to improve air quality in the communities most affected by air pollution. This bill mandates the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and air districts to develop and implement additional emissions reporting, monitoring, and reduction plans to reduce air pollution exposure in disadvantaged communities.

From this initiative, CARB has developed several programs, including the Community Air Protection Program, Community Air Grants, and the Technology Clearinghouse (TCH).

The TCH, currently being developed by SIG, aims to enhance public transparency and access by offering a comprehensive database for comparing emissions control information. This platform will enable users to identify community-specific actions that significantly reduce air pollution from both stationary and mobile sources.

The Technology Clearinghouse will serve as both a public and internal resource, providing access to rules, regulations, technologies, and practices that offer emissions or exposure reduction opportunities within impacted communities.

Development

Modular

As we develop this platform, we are creating modules for Best Available Control Technology (BACT), Rules and Regulations, Next Generation Technology, Actions, and Facilities. The BACT module will show the most effective technologies for reducing emissions, offering crucial information for achieving optimal air quality. The Facilities module will feature an API connection to the EPA’s Facility Registry Service, ensuring seamless integration of facilities data.
