Iara is an engineer working as an Environmental Consultant for SIG’s Environmental Mapping Team. Iara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering from the Universidade Federal de Viçosa (Brazil) and a Master’s degree in Environmental Management from the University of San Francisco (US). During her master’s program she completed research using remote sensing to evaluate the impact of recent changes in policy on the increase of deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon. Her expertise is in land cover and use changes, with a focus on forest conservation. Iara worked for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) as one of three selected experts in U.S. vegetation, land use dynamics and remote sensing to contribute to the Global Forest Resources Assessment of 2020. Iara is dedicated to using her expertise in the environmental field and spatial analysis to help develop solutions for environmental concerns.
