Gary Johnson is a computational scientist, who specializes in the dynamic modeling of spatially distributed environmental phenomena. He spent eight years developing new spatially-explicit ecosystem service connectivity models (SPAN and ARIES) and the past five years building fast fire behavior, weather, and risk models (GridFire and IWAP). His research interests include simulation modeling, extreme value statistics, decision support systems, risk assessment and uncertainty modeling, data mining, and machine learning. As a senior scientist with Spatial Informatics Group, his passion has become finding new ways to use advanced computational techniques to solve meaningful environmental problems. Gary is a recognized expert in fire model development and application.
