Thomas Buchholz and Dave Schmidt provided a carbon life cycle analysis for biomass production under various restoration thinning scenarios in support of a new torrefaction facility. This study was supported by the United States Endowment for Forestry and Communities in John Day, Oregon. The effort included a forest-wide growth and yield modeling and a carbon pool tracking of forest carbon stocks, fossil fuel emissions for production and transport of torrefied material to Japan as well as Japanese grid emissions.
