SIG worked with Global Environment Centre (GEC), funded by the USAID LEAF project to design and develop a phone app capable of “re-communicating” the ASEAN hotspot data generated by the ASEAN Specialised Meteorology Centre (ASMC), hosted by the Singapore. A later evolution of the App is desired to also re-communicate the ASEAN Fire Danger Rating System (FDRS) data hosted by the Malaysian Meteorology Department.
The phone app allows any landowner to register a parcel (and up to 20 parcels) of land, anywhere in ASEAN and if a hotspot occurs inside or within 1km of that land parcel an alert is sent to their android smartphone. The app is aimed at being a timely alert for land owners about potential fires on their land.
